Contaminated Land &
Water Working Group
Environmental Searches
Local Authorities can undertake environmental searches and provide
information on environmental issues for sites within their boundaries. The
information each authority is able to provide may vary slightly, the type
of information that may be available is listed below. In order to identify
exactly what information is available and to discuss your requirements in
detail, you should contact the Local Authority in which area the property
lies.
- Past site usage based upon historical County Series and Ordnance
Survey maps
- Potential past contaminative site usage
- Information on site investigations where available
- Private water abstractions
- Unlicensed, pre-licensing or closed landfill sites
- Pollution Incidents
- Nuisance complaints
- Information on pollution notices
- Part A2 and Part B authorised processes
- Waste Management Licences
- Hazard Substances Consents
Enquirers are sometimes not aware that the Council will charge for
providing a written response to an environmental search. The charge will
vary according to the time taken to draft the response, the type of detail
required and each individual authority's charging policy. A charge is
normally agreed with the client before a search is started.
In order to process your enquiry more efficiently the following key
information will be required.
- Full name and address of commercial enquirers including contact name
within the organisation.
- Full name and address of the site of interest.
- Large-scale maps clearly showing the location boundaries of the site
of interest. Verbal descriptions of a site or sketched outlines are
not suitable for a full search.
