WHAT HAS THE GROUP ACHIEVED

The local authorities have worked together in the following areas to inform the public and develop co-ordinated polices cost effective polices. This also fulfils our legal duties to review and manage air quality under the Environment Act 1995.

What Next?

Action Plans

Where Local Authorities have declared an Air Quality Management Area they must produce an Action Plan. Greater Manchester Authorities have produced a regional action plan with local annexes. Work is on going with the action plan, with annual reports on progress being made to Government. Local air quality is now one of the four shared objectives is being addressed in the local transport plan. The local transport plan for 2006-2011 will contain actions from the Greater Manchester Plan to help improve air quality.

Review and Assessment

Local authorities will review local air quality every three years with regular updates on pollution levels in the other years. More information about these reports is available on your local authority website.
